How it works
- The idea
- The students would create a magazine together. They would choose topics that are interesting and meaningful to them. I would guide them through the process, help them develop their ideas and support them in improving their work. The first issue could be small. The project could grow in time.
- The content
- The magazine could include work that students already create at Colina. This could be stories, project work, drawings or photographs. It could also document what is happening at Colina and give the children's projects a life beyond the classroom. We could create new material during our meetings. Students could write interviews, book reviews, reports, opinions, recipes or creative texts. They could also look for stories around the school, interview other children, visit projects or document school events. The content would depend on their interests.
- A bilingual magazine
- The magazine could include both English and Romanian. For the English part, students could collect work that is already created during their regular learning at Colina. During our magazine meetings, we would mainly create new content in Romanian. This would give students a real reason to read and write in Romanian. They could practise vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and clear expression with a real purpose in mind. The bilingual format would also make the magazine accessible to a wider community, including families, grandparents and friends.
- Learning through a real project
- The magazine would give students a real product and a real audience. They could take different roles according to their interests and abilities. They could be writers, reporters, interviewers, illustrators, photographers or editors. They would practise creativity, communication, collaboration and responsibility.
- The process
- The project could follow the LAUNCH process. Students would explore ideas, ask questions, research, create, receive feedback, improve their work and publish the final product. They would have an active role in deciding what the magazine should become. The final magazine could be printed and shared on paper, or it could remain digital and be published on the school's website.
